“Sleep might be the most important aspect of building a great business and having a high-performing body.” — Lewis Howes.

The morning routine doesn’t work if you don’t have a night routine. It took me time to understand it.

Years ago, I was excited to practice a morning routine; I did my best to follow my morning habits rigorously. Until now, they are not negotiable. I was focused on getting all done before starting my daily tasks.

Later on, I started to feel tired, even with the morning routine that gave me a boost of energy every day. It wasn’t the same anymore, and bad thoughts started to pop up in my head.

The problem was — the night before. The difference was insane how I acted during the day when I had a good sleep the night before. Adding the morning routine, the power I had was insane.

Be aware that everything starts the night before.

Let’s see what you can do to improve your sleep, hence improve your day ahead.

Keep your mind empty

“Late night thinking brings us fucked up thoughts” — Unknow

We all have a ton of tasks and thoughts during the day, and it is certainly difficult to disconnect from them. Moreover, when we are having a project or problems in our life.

Sometimes it seems impossible to disconnect from them. A good way to unlink them is by journaling.

Journaling is the best way to put all your thoughts and worries on the side. When you write down your thought, you make a pause from them. Somehow you are just dropping them there and keeping your head empty to calm and relax.

Relax, Relax, Relax

“Relaxation is the art of letting go” — Dan Brule.

Not everything is work and responsibilities. I used to feel guilty about watching a movie at night when I have to do so many things the next day.

When I wanted to relax, I stopped and continued working later at night.

Later on, I recognized I was sabotaging myself.

Lately, I started to watch “Sex in the city,” the series that my wife watch laughing at every night. I know what you think, that is for women, what is wrong with you.

I didn’t picture myself watching that. But to be honest, it is relaxing and fun. I ended up enjoying and discussing it after. Now I am Amanda’s fan. And to be honest It relaxes a lot before sleep.

Shower before sleep

“I never feel so much myself as when I’m in a hot bath.” — Sylvia Plath

According to studies, taking a warm bath before bed can help you sleep better. I am a morning shower guy. But this really works. Take a shower before sleep helps to calm down.

As a meditation, listening to the water falling to the floor, relax right away. At that moment, I think everything is not that difficult in life. Showers don’t just clean your body showers relax your brain.

Practice fasting

“Eating three times a day means taking on, almost without respite, the work of assimilation.”― Adalbert De Vogue

I used to eat late at night. Ordering food after putting the children to sleep. Now I realized how bad it was. That’s why I couldn’t sleep at all, and the next day the bad feeling arose.

When I understood how the body works at night, I stopped doing that. Now my last food is at 8 pm.

Studies show that practicing fasting has a lot of benefits that I wasn’t aware of.

Don’t give extra work to your body when your body needs rest.

Spend time with your partner

“The best things about memories is making them” — Unknow

It is perfect for taking a break and talking with your partner or calling a family member if you don’t have one.

A nice conversation about important things that happened during the day or listening to people we love is a nice way to relax. Fill your head with positivism and gratitude.

Drop your worries

“There isn’t enough room in your mind for both worry and faith. Choose wisely” — Unknow

It is difficult, but you have to embrace the idea you will not fix anything worrying about it. Not at all. Knowing your worries and drop them for a moment is a way to go. You are not going to fix anything, just thinking.

When you let your worries aside, the next day, they don’t seem that difficult. The trick is to understand that our mind needs rest to face our problems the next day. When you apply this, you realize that you overestimated simple situations.

Let your worries aside, focus on your sleep, and you will see the next day they don’t look the same. They don’t change, but your mind does.

Contemplate what you have achieved

“It’s not who you’re that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not” — Unknown

To increase your confidence and self-esteem before bedtime, contemplate what you did during the day or time ago. This is a reminder of how good you are. This will give you the confidence you need and forget sometimes.

It is a good time to remind yourself of the good things achieved. Sometimes things you achieved years ago.

When people used to tell me things like — you will not get it — and I got. Those moments make me feel amazing and energized right away.

Avoid social media before bed

“Stop looking for others to validate or verify you. You were already somebody before your social media account was created.”― Germany Kent

This a difficult one; I am still working on it. We made a deal at home after 9:00 pm no phones and social media at all. The problem is I read through my phone. Now I decided to get a physical book.

I am not a big fan of posting pictures or showing feelings on social media. But I’m aware of the need to check emails or any information I need online.

Besides, we have a Sunday with no electronic devices. That is a non-negotiable rule. Let see how it goes.

Be grateful for one thing

“Strive to find things to be thankful for, and just look for the good in who you are.” — Bethany Hamilton

This is a powerful one. Don’t take anything for granted. I didn’t have an idea of how good energy and calm are provided by being grateful.

Do you think you don’t have enough?

You have a lot if you think about other people who have real problems.

Sometimes we are complaining and worrying because we don’t have money to buy those amazing shoes at the store, but we never think that people don’t have the legs to wear those shoes.

We all have something to be grateful for. Look around you, or look at the mirror; you are healthy, strong, or maybe you have someone who can listen to you. You have food to eat and a home to live in.

One small thing before sleep at night, one small thing to be grateful for, will make your next day the most wonderful one.
